Geogrids are a major geosynthetic material. Geogrids are divided into four categories: plastic geogrids, steel-plastic geogrids, glass fibre geogrids and glass fibre polyester geogrids. Compared with other geosynthetics, it has unique properties and efficacy. Geogrids are commonly used as reinforcement for reinforced soil structures or as reinforcement for composite materials, etc.

A plastic geogrid is a square or rectangular polymer mesh formed by stretching, which can be unidirectional or bidirectional depending on the direction of stretching at the time of manufacture. It is made by punching holes in extruded polymer sheets (mostly made of polypropylene or high density polyethylene) and then applying directional stretching under heated conditions. The unidirectional stretch is made along the length of the sheet, while the bi-directional stretch is made by continuing to stretch the unidirectional stretch in a direction perpendicular to its length.
The polymer polymer is re-oriented during the manufacturing process by heating and stretching, which strengthens the linkage between the molecular chains and increases their strength. Its elongation is only 10% to 15% of that of the original sheet. If anti-ageing materials such as carbon black are added to the geogrid, it can be made to have better durability in terms of acid resistance, alkali resistance, corrosion resistance and ageing resistance.

VIII,Geogrid construction points

1,Construction site: compacted and flat, horizontal, clear of spikes and protrusions.
2,Grid laying: On a flat and compacted site, the main force direction (longitudinal) of the grid should be perpendicular to the direction of the embankment axis, laid flat, without wrinkles and as tight as possible. If the grating is installed in more than two layers, the seams between the layers should be staggered. After a large area has been laid, its straightness should be adjusted as a whole. When filling with a layer of soil, before rolling, the grating should be tensioned again by hand or machine, the strength should be uniform, so that the grating in the soil is taut and straight state.
3, The choice of filler: filler should be selected according to the design requirements. Practice has proved that, in addition to frozen soil, swamp soil, household rubbish, chalk, diatomaceous earth can be used as filler. However, the mechanical properties of gravel soil and sand soil are stable and very little affected by water content, so it is preferable to use them. The particle size of the filler should not be larger than 15cm, and pay attention to the control of filler gradation to ensure the compaction weight.
4,Filler paving and compaction: When the grating is laid and positioned, it should be filled and covered in time, and the bare time should not exceed 48 hours, or take the flowing operation method of backfilling while laying. Pave the fill at both ends first, fix the grating and then advance towards the middle. The order of rolling is first on both sides and then in the middle. When rolling, the roller must not be in direct contact with the reinforcement, and vehicles are not allowed to drive on the uncompacted reinforced body in order to avoid misalignment of the reinforcement. The degree of compaction in layers is 20-30cm. the degree of compaction must meet the design requirements, which is also the key to success or failure of reinforced soil projects.
5,Anti-drainage measures: in the reinforced soil project, must be good inside and outside the wall drainage treatment; to do a good job of foot protection, anti-scouring; in the soil body to set filtering, drainage measures, if necessary, should be set geotextile.
